Here's my joint submission with J. Randall. We had been talking about doing a powerviolence project in the vein of Iron Lung and Whalelimb and the timing for our first session happened to coincide with the song challenge. We started composing some music riff by riff with me on the drums and James on guitar and ended up writing 4 songs totaling just under two minutes. James recorded us live using a multi-mic setup and the result is pretty good. I only wish that we had mic'd the snare. To come up with lyrics, I tried to think about some stuff that made me angry which was actually tougher than I thought it would be, lol. I listened to the song on repeat and after a couple hours had some songs together and recorded vocals at my house using my phone. I only did a couple takes, I've got a head cold and a sore throat and really couldn't put as much energy into it as I wanted to, but I think they came out okay. I guess I'll wait to see if I think the lyrics are horrible in retrospect. Here it is is, with the extremely tentative band name Stroked Pink.
lyrics
~Collapse~
activism is meaningless
You do it so you feel less guilty
the only thing that you accomplish
is making the system run a little smoother
prolonging the collapse
activism in meaningless
you do it so you feel less guilty
the only thing that you accomplish
is letting the system run another day
~Pacifist~
you say you speak for peace
peace is maintained only with
violent acts committed every single day
do you still speak for peace?
~Mercenary~
the chances are about 1 in 3
that you'll be shot by the police
the odds go up to 1 in 2
if you happen to be black, too
cops are nothing but mercenaries
cops are nothing but class traitors
~Terror~
be grateful for your position
enjoy your big fancy homes
